A gentle enhancement, not a dramatic change

It is ideal if you are looking for a gentle enhancement of one to two cup sizes, rather than a dramatic change, and want results that sit comfortably with your frame, lifestyle and clothing. Many women choose small breast enlargement to restore modest volume after pregnancy or weight change, to refine breast shape or correct mild asymmetry, while keeping a soft, understated look. Mr Nakul Patel offers subtle breast enlargement in Leicester, Nottingham and across the East Midlands, using carefully selected techniques to achieve proportionate, natural-looking results that fit with your goals.

What Is Subtle Breast Enlargement?

The goal is to enhance your natural shape, not change it completely, so that the chest looks proportionate from the front and in profile.

Small breast enlargement is an operation to increase breast volume by a modest amount and enhance shape while preserving a natural, balanced appearance. It focuses on subtle enhancement rather than a large change in size, often aiming for an increase of around one cup size, or enough to improve shape, fullness and symmetry without looking over-augmented.

The procedure may use smaller silicone implants, fat transfer (lipofilling), or a combination of both. Implants can be placed in front of the muscle (subglandular), partially under the muscle (dual-plane), or via minimally invasive techniques such as MIA/Preserva in selected patients. In some cases, fat is taken from areas such as the abdomen or thighs and injected into the breast to refine contours, soften the upper pole or gently increase size.

The incision is most commonly placed in the fold under the breast (inframammary crease) or hidden in the armpit for certain minimally invasive techniques, helping to keep scars discreet and well-hidden in most clothing and swimwear. The goal is to enhance your natural shape, not change it completely, so that the chest looks proportionate from the front and in profile.

What Subtle Enlargement Can Achieve

In appropriately selected patients, small breast enlargement can provide a blend of physical, aesthetic and quality-of-life benefits, with a focus on subtlety and natural proportions.

Gentle Restoration of Volume

Gentle restoration of breast volume and firmness after pregnancy, breastfeeding or minor weight change.

Improved Body Balance

Improved balance between upper and lower body proportions.

Correction of Mild Asymmetry

Correction of mild asymmetry between the breasts.

Improved Ease With Activity

Improved ability to exercise in supportive sportswear without feeling the chest appears very flat or out of proportion.

Mr Patel will discuss these potential benefits in the context of your specific starting size, breast characteristics and goals.

Are You Suitable for Subtle Breast Enlargement?

Subtle breast enlargement is not suitable for everyone, and careful patient selection is essential to maximise safety and satisfaction. Mr Patel will explore both surgical and non-surgical options with you.

  • Would like a modest, natural-looking increase in breast size, typically one to two cup sizes
  • Have lost a small amount of breast volume after pregnancy, breastfeeding or minor weight change
  • Have mild asymmetry between your breasts that you would like to refine
  • Have realistic expectations about the subtlety of results and the permanence of scars
  • Are in good general health with a stable, healthy weight
  • Do not smoke, or are willing to stop smoking and avoid nicotine before and after surgery
  • Your BMI or weight significantly increases your risk of complications
  • You are currently smoking or using nicotine products and are not yet ready to stop
  • Medical conditions are not yet optimally controlled
  • You are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning pregnancy in the very near future

From First Consultation to Recovery

Sixteen steps, four phases, one continuous path: click any step to read Mr Patel's full guidance.

Phase 1 of 4

Consultation

1
Key Milestone

First Consultation

The initial consultation is an opportunity for Mr Patel to understand your concerns, motivations and goals, and to assess whether subtle breast enlargement is appropriate for you. This includes a detailed discussion of your medical history, medications, weight and smoking status, as well as any previous breast surgery or family history of breast cancer. A clinical examination is carried out, with measurements and photographs taken as part of the planning process. Mr Patel may use implant sizers, diagrams and photographs to help you visualise different size ranges and techniques. You are encouraged to bring photographs that reflect your preferences and ask questions about implant choice, fat transfer, scar position, recovery and long-term changes.

Patient Consultation

Cooling-Off Period

Time built in after your first visit to reflect and discuss matters with family or friends before reaching a considered decision.

Following your first consultation, a cooling-off period is built into Mr Patel's practice to allow you time to reflect on the information given and to discuss matters with family or friends. This supports a considered decision rather than a rushed one.

Second Consultation

Revisiting and confirming the plan, with the impact on screening, breastfeeding and exercise reviewed in full.

A second consultation allows you to revisit and confirm the plan, including the technique, implant type, size range, and to ensure that all your questions have been answered. The impact on future screening, mammography, breastfeeding and exercise will be reviewed. There is no pressure to proceed, and additional appointments can be arranged if needed.

Phase 2 of 4

Preparing for Surgery

Medicines & Supplements

Certain painkillers, blood thinners and supplements like fish oils may need to be paused before your surgery.

  • Provide a complete list of all medications, over-the-counter treatments, herbal products, and supplements.
  • Blood-thinning medicines and certain painkillers may need to be paused before surgery under medical guidance.
  • Some supplements, including fish oils and high-dose vitamin E, can affect clotting and may be stopped 1 to 2 weeks before surgery.

Smoking & Nicotine

Stopping at least 4 to 6 weeks beforehand, and avoiding nicotine throughout recovery, meaningfully lowers your risk of wound problems.

Smoking and nicotine significantly increase the risk of wound problems, infection, and healing complications. Mr Patel strongly advises stopping at least 4 to 6 weeks before surgery and avoiding nicotine throughout recovery.

Weight & BMI

A stable, healthy weight supports a safer anaesthetic and fewer wound complications.

A stable, healthy weight helps reduce anaesthetic risk and wound complications. If your BMI is significantly above 30, Mr Patel may recommend weight optimisation before surgery.

General Preparation

Balanced meals, good hydration, and support arranged at home: the small things that add up beforehand.

  • Maintain a balanced diet and good hydration in the weeks before surgery.
  • Arrange practical support at home for the first 1 to 2 weeks.
  • Prepare loose, front-opening clothing and a suitable support bra for after surgery.
  • If you develop a new illness close to your surgery date, contact the team as it may be safer to postpone.
Phase 3 of 4

Hospital Journey

Admission

Meeting the nursing team, reconfirming consent with Mr Patel, final markings, and a briefing from your anaesthetist.

On arrival at the hospital, you will be welcomed by the nursing team and shown to your room. Mr Patel will visit you to review the plan, reconfirm consent, check any implant choices and perform final surgical markings. You will also meet your anaesthetist.

Going to Theatre

Performed under general anaesthetic in most cases, though local anaesthetic with sedation may be discussed for certain minimally invasive techniques.

The operation is performed under general anaesthetic, so you will be asleep and comfortable throughout. For certain minimally invasive techniques, local anaesthetic with sedation may be discussed.

10
Key Milestone

The Operation

The procedure follows a carefully planned sequence tailored to your anatomy and agreed technique. Typically, this includes:

  1. Creating a precise pocket for the implant or fat.
  2. Inserting the implant, or injecting fat, into position.
  3. Checking symmetry and position.
  4. Closing the wounds with dissolvable sutures before applying dressings and a supportive bra.
Operating Theatre

Recovery & Discharge

Closely monitored while you wake, then home the same day or after one night with clear aftercare instructions.

You will wake in the recovery area and return to the ward once comfortable. Your breasts will feel firm and swollen, and you will be given appropriate pain relief. Most patients go home the same day or after one night in hospital with written aftercare instructions and clear contact details for any urgent concerns.

Phase 4 of 4

Recovery After Subtle Breast Enlargement

12
Key Milestone

Week 1: Early Recovery

  • Expect swelling, bruising and tightness across the chest.
  • Keep your support bra on day and night; avoid lifting or sudden arm movements.
  • Gentle walking from the first day or two helps reduce the risk of blood clots.

Weeks 2 to 3: Regaining Comfort

Tenderness settles as most return to light work within 1 to 2 weeks, continuing the support bra throughout.

  • Pain and bruising begin to settle; many patients return to light or desk-based work after 1 to 2 weeks.
  • Continue wearing the support bra and avoid strenuous upper-body activity.

3 to 6 Weeks: Returning to Normal Activities

Gradual reintroduction of exercise, lower-body first, with the support bra worn for at least 6 weeks.

  • Most patients resume normal day-to-day activities. Lower-body exercise can often start around 4 weeks, upper-body training around 6 weeks.
  • The support bra is usually worn for at least 6 weeks.

3 to 6 Months: Settling Phase

Swelling continues to soften as the breasts settle into shape and scars begin to fade.

  • Swelling continues to improve and the breast shape becomes softer and more natural as the implants settle.
  • Scars continue to improve and fade.
16
Key Milestone

12 to 18 Months: Final Outcome

  • The final breast shape stabilises.
  • Scars reach their more mature appearance but remain permanent.

Mr Patel's Approach to Scar Optimisation

Mr Patel places strong emphasis on optimising scar quality.

During Surgery

During surgery, wounds are carefully closed in multiple layers.

Early Healing

Micropore tape or specialised dressings are often used in the early stages.

Longer-Term Care

Silicone gel or strips are used as healing progresses, together with consistent sun protection to reduce the risk of scars darkening.

Risks & Complications

Subtle breast enlargement is generally safe when carried out in appropriately selected patients. Mr Patel will discuss all risks in detail during consultation.

  • Pain, bruising & swelling: normal in the first 1 to 2 weeks
  • Tightness & firmness of the chest, gradually settling
  • Changes in nipple or breast sensation, which usually improve over time
  • Delayed wound healing or infection: may require antibiotics or further treatment
  • Capsular contracture: hardening of scar tissue around the implant
  • Implant rippling or visible implant edges: particularly in slim patients
  • Asymmetry in breast size, shape or implant position
  • Fat necrosis (firm lumps) if lipofilling is used
  • Need for revision or secondary procedures
  • Implant rupture or failure: requiring further surgery
  • BIA-ALCL: breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma, very rare, mainly associated with textured implants
  • DVT / PE: blood clots in the legs or lungs
  • Anaesthetic complications
Breastfeeding & Future Screening

Small breast enlargement, whether by implants, lipofilling or a combination, does not routinely prevent breastfeeding, but it can affect milk production or comfort in some women. Nipple and breast sensation can change after surgery; for many patients this improves over time. Breast augmentation does not stop you having mammograms or other breast imaging, but you should always tell the radiology team about any implants or previous surgery.

Mr Patel takes a careful, personalised approach to risk reduction, including thorough pre-operative assessment, meticulous surgical technique, appropriate measures to reduce blood-clot risk, and close postoperative follow-up.

Frequently Asked

Subtle breast enlargement typically uses implants of under 300cc, often in the range of 150cc to 275cc. The precise size is determined during your consultation based on your chest width, existing breast tissue, and goals, rather than by cup size alone. Mr Patel uses measurements, diagrams and, where appropriate, external sizers to help you understand different options before committing to a size.

The aim of subtle breast enlargement is to enhance your natural shape, not transform it. When appropriately matched to your frame, smaller implants or fat transfer results tend to sit comfortably within your proportions and are often undetectable to others. Mr Patel will discuss the technique best suited to achieving the most natural result for your individual anatomy.

Yes. In selected patients, fat transfer, also known as lipofilling, can be used to achieve a gentle, natural increase in volume using your own fat from areas such as the abdomen or thighs. The results are very soft and natural, although the degree of volume increase is modest compared with implants, and results may partially diminish over time. Mr Patel will advise on whether this is the most appropriate option for your goals.

Small breast enlargement does not routinely prevent breastfeeding, but it can affect milk production or comfort in some women. If you are planning a future pregnancy, this is an important factor to discuss with Mr Patel before surgery, as it may influence both the timing and technique used.

The results of subtle breast enlargement are long-lasting but not permanent. Implants are not lifetime devices and should be monitored over time. Natural changes such as ageing, weight fluctuation and pregnancy can also affect breast appearance. Maintaining a stable weight and attending regular reviews will help you manage expectations over the longer term.

Modern silicone implants, particularly those used for subtle enlargement, are designed to feel soft and move naturally. Smaller implants generally have a more natural feel than larger ones, particularly in patients with good overlying breast tissue. Mr Patel will explain the implant options most likely to achieve the feel and appearance you are looking for.

The main distinction is implant size. Standard breast augmentation typically uses implants of 275cc or above; subtle enlargement uses smaller implants, often below 275cc. The surgical technique is otherwise similar. The goal of subtle enlargement is a proportionate, understated result, typically an increase of around one cup size, rather than a more significant change in size.
